Logistics for Thailand cave diving trips

Schedule for Cave Diving Trips to Khao Sok National Park

We run our cave diving trips to Khao Sok National park as 2 day trips where we make four or five dives.

Khao Sok Thailand

From our base on Koh Tao we take a ferry to the Thai mainland, usually to the fishing port of Chumphon. From there we make a one and a half hour drive the Rajjapraba Dam at the South-Eastern corner of the marine park.

At the dam we setup all our diving equipment, then load our gear onto a traditional Thai long-tail boat to begin our journey into the national park.

Our first dive is normally the Par Daeng cave, roughly in the center of Khao Sok.

Following the dive we head to the north to our accommodation where we drop off any non-diving equipment and break for lunch. We have a compressor permanently located at the accommodation, so this also gives us an opportunity to refill our cylinders.
After lunch we make a couple more dives, with the dive site being decided by the divers on the trip.

Once the diving is done, we return to the accommodation to for a dinner of traditional Thai food and a few cold beers. At nighttime it gets pretty dark and quiet, so after a long days diving most people are usually asleep by eight o’clock or so.

Before breakfast the following morning we normally schedule an early dive at the nearby ‘forest’ dive site which makes a nice contrast to the cave diving. Then take the 10 minute trip back across the lake in time for breakfast.

We'll then make one final dive en-route back to the dam. Then it’s a drive back to Chumphon where we arrive by early evening.

Choice of Cave Diving Sites

We’re very open to suggestions and requests during these trips, and choose dive sites based on the ability, experience and training of the group. For groups of divers new to cave diving looking for an introduction to cave diving, we'll be diving gentle, easy cavern (which are still fantastic), whilst for hardcore cave diving enthusiasts we’ll obviously be taking on the more challenging cave systems.

And depending on the requests of divers, we’re also happy to devote a portion of each trip to exploration. To date we’ve only explored a tiny percentage of Khao Sok national park, so there are many exciting new discoveries still waiting to be made.

We have a compressor permanently located at the accommodation, and plenty of emergency oxygen and a serious first aid kit in case of any accidents. Usually we ‘re diving on 12L twin sets with central isolator manifold, but also have several CCR rebreathers and as such are able to supply a full range of spares and sorb.
